Michigan Youth in Government (MYIG)

Steve Wincent

Adult advisor registration fees for the Mill Creek and DHS Youth in Government Conferences.

Michigan Youth in Government (MYIG) is a student-run mock government program that takes place in Lansing, with students from around the state. Students gain leadership skills and knowledge about the inner workings of government while participating in their chosen program area.

This is the fourth year I've had the program at Mill Creek and the third year at the high school. The first few years the program (run by the YMCA) had a grant which covered 90% of student and advisor fees. This year the program has a grant which will cover 70% of fees.

Each year I've been taking more students to the conference, and this year I've reached the 50 student cap for Mill Creek's group. As most students choose to continue participating in the program into high school, I expect to reach the cap this year or next year for the high school. As a result of our growth, I need to take more adult advisors which have increased our fees.

This grant will cover the adult advisor fees for the high school one day fall training conference, four day Lansing conference, and the middle school three day Lansing conference.
