iPads for Curriculum Use in 3rd and 4th grade
Patti Steinbrecher and Megan Esposito
We request two iPads to support curriculum applications and growth for students in an engaging way struggling with reading and writing at Wylie.
Students at Wylie have a variety of learning needs. We have students with cognitive disabilities, learning disabilities, autism spectrum disorder, ADHD/ADD and other intellectual differences. These students learn best when information can be delivered in a variety of ways. iPads are a helpful tool for these students to be able to access the educational apps that are available. This would also allow teachers to create countless interactive activities that are specific to our students’ needs. An iPad helps to deliver, reinforce and practice academic concepts in a way that sparks student interest. The vast majority of these educational applications and tools are only available on iPads. We are requesting to purchase 2 iPad (10th generation) to be used by our students with the greatest academic needs.
There are specific apps that are already being used by interventionists at Wylie who already have access to iPads. The apps have proven to be beneficial to students’ learning within our curriculum. One example is the Card Deck App. Card Deck is an application that was designed specifically for reading support curriculum. It makes the learning process more interactive and helps to track data and student progress so the curriculum can be geared towards each student’s specific needs. It also provides students with tools to support writing via voice to text applications better than their current chromebook technology.
