An upgraded and reliable Original Prusa MK4 3D Printer to meet the needs of novice 3D printing high school students as well as advanced printers.
The Prusa MK4 printer is replace another printer that in nonfunctional. Currently the science Makerspace curriculum inspires students to find, design and build projects in the medium of their choice. Many students have never had the opportunity to 3D print and having a well running and capable printer will allow all students to gain a new skill. Many students at Dexter High School would not have the financial or knowledge ability to 3D print- it opens up a whole new world of technology to these students.
For some students, the 3D print is their project, while others, use parts from a 3D print to create other builds such as an LED wired lamp, 3D printed parts to mix with wood rails to make a weaving loom which will allow them to make rugs, camera boxes to insert lenses to make an operational camera.
This printer will allow for more than double the access of 3D printing to students. We currently have only one operational printer and it is a cheap entry level printer with low print speed. Student must wait days to be able to have a window to complete their print. When students leave at the end of the day, they have to hope their print is going to continue without problems.
