Spring 2012 Grant Submission Information

Dear Grant Writers,

The Educational Foundation of Dexter is now accepting grant submissions for our spring 2012 cycle.  Deadline for entry is March 30, 2012.  Please review important information before applying with our newly updated spring 2012 grant form.  There have been a few changes this cycle.

One thing that has not changed  is our mission to fund both enrichment opportunities for students and  training programs for teachers who will, in turn, share new ideas and techniques with other educators in the district.  Please indicate which type of grant you are applying for on the grant form.

  • EFD Grants for Student Programs – provides funding for enrichment opportunities for students.
  • EFD Donor Advised Grants for Training –  The anonymous donor of these funds has designated that they be used to improve teaching-learning effectiveness.  New ideas and techniques shall, in turn, be shared with other Dexter Community Schools educators.  All Dexter Community Schools employees are eligible.

Grant Submission Spring 2012 – Change Summary

1. Grant number box at top right is for our internal use.  No need to name or number your submission.  Do save a copy for your own reference however!

2. Very Important – Please do not send your grant submissions as pdf files. MS Word doc files or Open Office docs are preferred. (Pages won’t work.)

3. Send final grant submissions to grants@efdexter.org .  Please send a copy to your school principal.

4. Donor Advised Scheduling Note:  Training opportunities that come up “off-cycle” and do not have a 6 month advance notice in which to respond, MAY be submitted for early review via our EFD building representative liaison, Denise Dutcher at dutcherd@dexterschools.org.   For example, if notice of a great opportunity is received in January that is to occur in March, that opportunity would miss the standard review cycle.  In cases like these, we will make every attempt to see that your request is reviewed.

For a teacher perspective on grant writing you may also contact Denise Dutcher, EFD building representative liaison at dutcherd@dexterschools.org.

Deadline for submission is March 30, 2012.  Awards will be announced by April 23.

Thanks for your ideas and creativity!

S.P.A.C.E. Grant – DHS Center for Performing Arts

Teachers and Students Learning Together - Experience for Students in Performing Arts and Business

Although we put them in work groups early, they (the kids)didn’t really respond and/or stay organized. I think that was a combination of student naivete and Barry (Mergler) and I being afraid to let them mess up. If something didn’t get done quickly, we would get over involved in the process. Although we wanted to be completely hands off with the process, we did feel a great deal of pressure to have things go right. We wanted the Ed Foundation to be well represented, and we wanted the event to go smoothly. I definitely lost some sleep over this! Now that we have a budget we’ll be able to back up and let the students do everything, start to finish, and the level of student empowerment will be much greater.

I just wanted to say thank you for your support of this endeavor. We couldn’t have done this without your backing and with the support of the EFD in general. As a teacher and as an adviser, I’ve learned a great deal. I think the kids have been inspired and SPACE will be an even better club in the future.
